Plants

There are over 6,000 flowering plants in Florida. In fact “Florida” means “Land of Flowers”.  And the Old Chason Plantation must have been what Ponce de Leon had in mind when he gave us that name.

The Plantation covers many different habitats and each has its natural association of wild flowers. Neighboring Tate’s Hell Swamp and other boggy areas hold pitcher plants, ground orchids and fascinating carnivorous species. The fresh water creeks have lilies and swamp roses. The pine flatwoods have an astounding assortment or wild flowers that change in their displays from spring to fall.

To this day I have not photographed all the species but my heart has never dulled to the sight of their yearly beauty. They are feast for the soul.
